In a recent newsletter we reminded all of our Landlords of the importance in not breaching tenants’ rights by entering properties unlawfully. A Nelson landlord was recently ordered to pay his tenant $1450 for illegally entering the property during the tenants occupancy when she was away and without her permission. In this case the tenant had secretly videoed the landlord showing potential tenants through the property and although the Landlord claimed he had the tenants verbal permission the video recordings were consistent with people behaving in a way that indicated they didn’t have the necessary permission.
